REGALWISE
WEB DESIGN SERVICES
Anyone can afford
to have their own website. I can set it up for you
and maintain it, or teach you how to make changes
and additions yourself. Here are some
options to consider:
1) Domain name.
This is the address of your website, what people
will type in their browser window that will take
them to your site. If you want to use a short,
easy to remember word or phrase, then you pay for
it, by the year, and it belongs to you. This will
cost $3-15 per year. Go Daddy offers some of
the best prices and service. Here's a link to
their site where you can see if your desired
domain name is available and what it would cost.

2) Hosting service.
This is the computer system where your website is
permanently connected to the internet so that it's
always available for people to find. You have 2
main choices here:
- Free site
hosting service. This type of hosting service
will offer you space for free, but they have
pop-up ads or border ads that will appear on
your site (whether you like them or
not!). The ads are paid for by all sorts
of companies and this pays their bills so they
can offer the space free. The address to
your site may be long and difficult to
remember. There may be restrictions
about what you can or can't put on your site.
(for instance, a few will not allow you to
sell anything from your site.) They cater to
newcomers with limited knowledge and
experience, and usually have easy to follow
instructions.
- Paid Hosting
Service. This type of service will not require
any ads on your site. You can use a web
address that you choose. Some hosting services
will even pay to establish a domain name of
your choice for you when you are signing up
for new service with them. These hosting
services may or may not provide easy
instructions for uploading additions and
changes to your website (they tend to assume
that you have experience). They run from
$30-100 per year, some have an initial set-up
charge. Go Daddy offers one of the best
values. Here's a banner that you can click to
check out their prices and services.

3) Website
designing. You can do it yourself or
have someone else create and maintain your
website. Or you could have someone else create it
and then show you how to make the changes.
- If you want to
learn to do it yourself, there are dozens of
software programs available for designing
websites. Some are free. Some are easier to
learn than others. If you have Windows
software on your computer, you may already
have Frontpage Express installed. It's easy to
learn and has a tutorial to help you.
You will need a way to get pictures into your
computer. This can be done with a regular
camera, printed photos, and a scanner. Or you
may have your film developer put the pictures
on a computer disc or on a website where you
can access them. Or it is easier if you have a
digital camera.
- If you would
rather pay me to create and make occasional
additions or changes to your website, I can
scan printed photos into digital form to use
on your website. You would need to provide
text (what you want to say) and photos or
other specific images that you'd like to
appear (a logo for instance). I would
make additions or changes as needed.
I charge $20 per
hour once the initial consultation is concluded
where you and I discuss what your needs and
preferences are. To give you an idea how
much $20 will buy, text and photos arriving to me
by email can be incorporated into an established
website in just 10-15 minutes if the text does not
need editing and the photos are pre-shrunk to
10-30 Kb size. Pedigrees are a pain and take much
longer. My Regalwise website has grown to be
pretty big over the years and would take days to
do if I did it all at once. Here is an example of
a simple website that I created and maintain for a
friend. The basic structure took only a half an
hour or so, but filling in the pedigrees takes
15-20 minutes each. www.Raebark.com
